New COS Showroom launching

June 2007

COS officially opened its new 1,000 sqm office furniture showroom in June 2007.

This showroom was created to show some of the newest trends of the Inspirational Office concepts, developed by Steelcase researchers, and serves as a major observation centre for clients as it is structured on four areas: Demonstration, Meeting, Welcoming and Working area, also known as WorkLab.

A press conference was held in the new showroom on the day of its official opening.

Steelcase representatives Mr. Marc Nicolaisen, Sales Director for Eastern and Central Europe and Mr. Francois Cadoz, Area Manager for Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria and Balkans, who came to Romania to attend this press conference, spoke about the new international trends in office design. They presented the results of a research study conducted by Steelcase with the help of the research company Ipsos, in 6 European countries (Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, Italy, France and Spain). This survey was conducted on 2,500 European managers, who described their national workstyles and the particular office space planning used in their company.

This research showed that new technologies and different work space applications have a direct effect on the way people use their workplace nowadays. In the past, employees used to work mostly at their desk, today they move around the workplace and use it for their creative meetings, brainstorming sessions or even for relaxation-driven informal meetings, more often than before.

Based on this survey, we came to understand that informal, non-traditional work places are relaxing and stimulating and by this can help people renew their creativity and explore new, innovative ideas.

And this is why, in order to be as efficient as possible, office interior designs should start integrating this knowledge.
